There were over 100 recorded incidents of rape across the Shannonside region last year. The latest figures from the Central Statistics Office also show 18 other sexual offences were committed during that period. The latest recorded crime statistics from the CSO show 103 incidents of rape in the Shannonside region in 2023. A total of 56 incidents were reported in the Sligo/Leitrim Garda Division as well as six other sexual offences. There were 15 rapes recorded in the first quarter of the year, while 11 were reported in the second quarter.
The third quarter of the year saw a marked increase in incidents with 20 incidents of rape reported to Gardaí while a further 10 incidents were recorded in the final three months of the year. In the Roscommon/Longford division, there were 47 incidents of rape as well as 12 other sexual offences recorded in 2023. There were 12 incidents of rape reported in the first quarter and 14 in the second quarter of the year. The third quarter saw 9 incidents reported to Gardaí while there were 12 cases in the final quarter of the year.
