Only two LEAs across the region report incidence rates above average

Athlone and Carrick-on-Shannon are the Local Electoral Areas that exceed the national average.

Only two LEAs across the Shannonside Northern Sound region have 14-day incidence rates of the virus that are above the national average.

In the latest two-week reporting period up to Monday, December 20th, only Athlone and Carrick-on-Shannon have incidence rates in excess of the national average of 1,344 cases.

Each LEA in Co Cavan is registering a 14-day incidence rate below 1,000 cases per 100,000 population.

The rate is 925 in Cavan-Belturbet, 979 in Bailieborough-Cootehill, and 984 in Ballyjamesduff.

In Co Monaghan, Ballybay-Clones also has an incidence rate below 1,000 cases, at 922.

The incidence rate in the Northern Sound region is at its highest in Carrickmacross-Castleblayney at 1,208, while the Monaghan LEA has an incidence rate of 1,005.

Across the Shannonside region, Carrick-on-Shannon is registering the highest incidence rate locally, at 1,408 cases, which is above the national average.

Elsewhere in Co Leitrim, Ballinamore has an incidence rate of 1,328, which is just below the national average of 1,344, while Manorhamilton is considerably lower at 850.

In Co Longford, Granard has the lowest incidence rate locally, at 693 cases.

Ballymahon's incidence rate is almost double this, at 1,293, while the Longford LEA has an incidence rate of 1,134.

Across Roscommon, Athlone has the county's highest rate at 1,346 cases per 100,000 population.

Boyle's figure is 1,127, while the Roscommon LEA has an incidence rate of 906.

Nationwide, Blanchardstown-Mulhuddart in Co Dublin has the highest incidence rate at 2,087 and Co Mayo's Belmullet has the lowest at 556.
