North West public urged to be vigilant for symptoms following local covid spike

Several small outbreaks in the northwest region are leading to higher numbers of new cases in an area that has seen traditionally low levels of the virus.

The Director of Public Health in the North West is advising people with symptoms of Covid 19 to contact their GP immediately.

Dr Anthony Breslin says that cases of the virus in Leitrim Sligo and Donegal have not decreased as much as expected, with outbreaks are occurring schools, workplaces and among families

There were 12 new cases confirmed in county Leitrim yesterday.

Drumshanbo Vocational School has returned its senior years to remote education, following four confirmed cases of the virus among students.

Dr Breslin asks people not to stay on at work or school if they are ill and to reduce socialising and to ensure they get tested so that they can reduce the spread of the virus.
