Westmeath County Council has no plans to install CCTV systems or screening panels along the Athlone Greenway according to council officials.
At this months meeting of the Athlone/Moate MD, Councillor John Dolan claimed that anti-social and criminal behaviour is occurring on the route that overlooks a number of homes.
According to the council, any CCTV system would fall under the provision of Gardaí and residents are welcome to install screening panels on their own property.

The council has stated that they consider the Greenway is a safe and enjoyable amenity due to floodlighting, garda patrols and council maintenance.
