The vaccine rollout in the Ballygar area on the Galway/Roscommon border will NOT be affected following a serious fire at the local Health Centre

The vaccine rollout in the Ballygar area on the Galway/Roscommon border will NOT be affected following a serious fire at the local Health Centre today.

That's according to Dr Martin Daly, the centre's GP, following this morning's blaze.

No one was injured in the fire that left the building significantly damaged.

One building on site has been destroyed while a second has suffered smoke damage.

The practice was due to begin administering Covid-19 vaccines this week, with the vaccines themselves scheduled to be delivered later in the week.

Smoke was spotted at the building in Ballygar at around 7.30 am and was brought under control by units of the fire brigade from Mountbellew and Roscommon.

Arrangements are now being made for injections to be administered at a nearby vacant nursing home so there won't be a delay to the roll-out.

Dr Martin Daly says they are currently offering emergency services at the new location with patients urged to call 087 3610079 in urgent cases.

According to Dr Daly, they intend to begin vaccinating over 85s by Saturday:
