New temporary Covid test centre to open in Castlerea next week

The centre is to open for a full week at the fire station building in the town

A new temporary walk-in test centre is to be set up in Castlerea in Roscommon next week to help identify a-symptomatic cases of Covid-19 in the community.

The centre will be established at Castlerea Fire Station on Church Street in the town, and will run from Tuesday the 27th of April to May 4th.

Sinn Féin TD for Roscommon/Galway Claire Kerrane has welcomed the establishment of the walk-in Covid testing centre.

“It is said that one in five people have no symptoms of Covid and can spread the virus without knowing. That is why is it so important that a facility like this is made available to communities.”

Unions say the Intel Covid-19 outbreak must serve as a wake up call to the construction sector ahead of its expected full reopening next month.

Around 70 cases of the virus have been identified at the building site in Leixlip, Co. Kildare since the weekend.

Trade Union Unite says there is now an urgent need for rigorous testing regimes on all construction sites.
