Special mentions were given in the report to the Mall Walk, Longford Library, and Albert Reynolds Peace Park, which inspectors noted had 'greatly improved' since the previous visit

The residential area of Harbour Point was the most littered site in the town with a persistent litter presence, most obviously alcohol cans, sweet wrappers and cigarette butts.

Longford ranked 25th out of 40 towns, a slight increase on their previous 27th place ranking in January of this year.

Elsewhere in Roscommon, the county town ranked 16th on the national list. IBAL inspectors praised Main Street in particular for it's welcoming environment created by the new paving and planter boxes.

The worst littered area in the town was noted as the laneway to the rear of Casey's Circle K and close to Roscommon Fire Station with IBAL stating this was an area clearly subject to dumping.

Carrick on Shannon ranked 13th on the list and was the highest placed local town. The Shannonside Prom/Quay was ranked as an 'exceptionally' good site in terms of presentation, along with the Main Street and Quays Car Park.

The R280 Leitrim to Manorhamilton Road was noted as being 'in sharp contrast' to the rest of the sites in the town with significant litter on the grass bank and in the water.

Nationally, Maynooth is ranked as the cleanest town in the country by the organisation Conor Horgan from IBAL says certain types of litter remain at a high level.
