New scholarship aimed at former prisoners access higher education to begin in Athlone

A new scholarship aimed at helping former prisoners access higher education is beginning at the Athlone Campus of TUS.

The KickStart Scholarship Fund , established by the Irish Probation Service and supported by the Prison Service will see financial support for people with convictions enrolling in undergraduate study.

Two of the scholarships will be available at the Athlone campus and are open to new undergraduate students who have applied to study there this year, as well as those who have already enrolled.

"This very much speaks to our ethos of opening access, in other words providing opportunities to better themselves while under taking an undergraduate program."

"It is an opportunity for them that may who have made mistakes in the past and are very much eager to better themselves and maybe we can reduce the barriers that they are experiencing in terms of a program to be able to study."
