New parking bye-laws are to be examined for towns and villages in the south Longford area.

This month's meeting of the Ballymahon Municipal District heard concerns over a lack of bye-laws to enforce issues such as people parking on double yellow lines, wheelchair accessible spaces and yellow boxes.

Bye-laws are currently in place in Longford town while they are also limited bye-laws regarding traffic in place in the Granard Municipal District area.

Councillor Colm Murray says it's important that new laws are developed to assist Gardai and the Council to monitor policing:
