The launch of Longford's new text alert app will take place at Colmcille Community Centre tonight
The app supported by Longford County Council and Gardai, is aimed at connecting communities to create a network of instant information to prevent incidents of crime and to help in detection and apprehension of criminals.
The free app can be downloaded onto smart phones and it is hoped that the majority of local community groups will some on board in the coming weeks and months across the county.
The launch takes place at 7pm tonight and all are welcome.
Councillor gary Murtagh suggested the development of a local authority-led app following discussion with representatives from County Monaghan where a similar scheme developed
