New Longford Cathaoirleach wants party politics put aside

Councillor Casey will be the first Cathaoirleach of the county for the new council and will formally be appointed at the Annual General Meeting next week.

The incoming Cathaoirleach of Longford County Council is calling for party politics to be put aside in the aftermath of the local election. Independent Mark Casey from Lanesboro has joined with fellow independent Turlough McGovern and the 8 elected Fine Gael Councillors as part of the controlling group of Longford County Council.

Councillor Casey will be the first Cathaoirleach of the county for the new council and will formally be appointed at the Annual General Meeting next week. The Lanesboro Councillor said his demands in negotiations with Fine Gael Councillors echoed the demands of the public from his canvass in the lead up to the elections. Speaking to Let's Talk today, he said there is much work to be done in Longford:
