A new food hub in Lanesboro will also be developed as part of the plan.

A new food strategy has been launched to help entrepreneurs develop and build their businesses in the Shannonside region,.

The MidlandsIreland.ie Regional Food & Drink Strategy 2021-2024 was launched earlier this week at Cloughan Farm & Cookery School, Abbeyshrule, County Longford.

The plan contains four key elements, including offering support for the food and drink sector locally through greater awareness of local products helping develop export opportunities as well promoting food tourism as a whole across the region.

As part of Just Transition plans, a new food hub is to be developed in Lanesboro which also forms part of the plan.

Sarah Morgan is Programme Manager, Midlands Regional Enterprise Development Office.

She says local food firms play a key role in the regional economy :
