The new Bishop elect of the diocese of Achonry admits the prospect of his ordination is a "scary" one.

It was announced in late January by Pope Francis that Paul Dempsey, who had been working in the diocese of Kildare and Leighlin  would fill the vacancy in the north-west diocese left by Bishop Brendan Kelly's move to Galway.

His ordination was originally scheduled for late April, but due to Covid, was postponed until today at 3pm in the Cathedral in Ballaghaderreen.

The ceremony will be available to view online - with social distancing guidelines meaning only a handful of special guests will be allowed access to the church.
