A Roscommon student recently won the national award for best first year student across Irish Universities. Latisha McCrudden is a member of the local travelling community and studies Law at the University of Galway. She was also recognised at the Garda Youth Awards last year, winning the Special Achievement award in the Roscommon/Longford area.
According to latest figures, only 1% of travellers go on to study at third level. Speaking to the Joe Finnegan show this morning, Latisha believes there are still a lot of barriers in education for travellers:
