Today was the hottest day of the summer so far with a new national record set for July

An air temperature of 33 degrees was recorded in the Phoenix Park in Dublin today.

Met Eireann says it's a new all time national record for the month of July.

Today was predicted to be the hottest day of the summer, with a number of locations recording 30 degrees earlier today.

Temperatures at Mount Dillon on the Longford/Roscommon border, and at Ballyhaise in Cavan reached a high of 31 degrees this afternoon, while a temperature of 30 was recorded at Mullingar.

The hot weather is expected to come to an abrupt end tomorrow with heavy rain predicted for many parts of the country.
