Motorist caught close to 60kph over speed limit near Athlone

Westmeath Roads Policing Unit have fined a motorist for driving nearly 60 kilometres per hour over the speed limit on the M6 motorway.

During a patrol, local Gardaí observed the vehicle travelling at 177kph on the M6 near Athlone.

The motorist was stopped by Gardaí and issued with a Fixed Charge Penalty Notice.

Gardaí and the Road Safety Authority are continuing to urge motorists to drive with care following a significant rise in road fatalities over the past 3 months.
