The mother of a 16 year old Roscommon boy who has special needs says she's hugely relieved at Normal Foleys announcement that special schools will be allowed to re-open from next week.
Monica Leydon from Scramogue says her son Calum who is 16 and non-verbal has been severely disturbed by the loss of his school routine, and a helmet had to be bought to try and control his "self -injurious" behaviour.
The Roscommon woman says Calum usually attends the Edmund Rice Autism Centre attached to the CBS in Roscommon town, and gets respite care with the Brothers of Charity, but both have been disrupted by the lockdowns.
She says she's slightly nervous about sending Calum back to school in the midst of a pandemic, but she also realises that his attendance is a vital part of his daily routine:
