More supports needed for live event sector says local representatives

Industry representatives say that 50 per cent capacity for many gigs is as good as a cancellation.

A Cavan musician says new restrictions are a hammer blow to the industry.

All entertainment events, along with pubs and restaurants will be capped at fifty per cent capacity from tomorrow.

Brendan Jermyn says it's not viable for businesses to pay for live music with the new limits.

The Cavan singer told the Joe Finnegan show that he had to take up additional employment due to the uncertainty of the music business.

Meanwhile, representatives from the Music and Entertainment association are currently meeting with the Tanaiste and Arts Minister Catherine Martin.

They are calling on the Government to implement proper supports for the industry.

Speaking on the Joe Finnegan Show, Spokesperson for the group, Athleague native Jackie Conboy says they will try to ensure members affected receive the full PUP payment.
