More Garda resources needed to tackle violent crime in Longford - local Councillor

In the latest incident, a man in his 20s was knocked down and hospitalised.

Local Gardaí need to be adequately resourced if Longford's trial Community Safety Partnerships is to be a success.

That's according to local councillor and group vice-chair Seamus Butler following a violent incident in the town this week.

A man in his late 20s was hospitalised on Monday evening after he was reportedly knocked down by a van at a housing estate on Ardnacassa Avenue.

Longford's Community Safety Partnerships is one of three programme's nationwide launched by the government in an effort to develop more coordination between various state agencies, communities and local authorities around policing and social issues.

Speaking to Let's Talk today, Councillor Butler says local Gardaí must receive more support in order to tackle violent crime:

Longford Roscommon GRA representative Dave Conroy also spoke on the Let's Talk show today about the urgent need for more Garda resource sin the division, especially in light of the violent incidents in Longford town this week.
