More garda patrols in Castlerea to tackle rise in burglaries

Additional garda patrols are being rolled out in the Castlerea district in an effort to tackle a rise in burglaries and thefts.

Superintendent Tom Colsh told a recent meeting of the Roscommon joint policing Committee that the winter phase of operation Thor is now underway across the district

The garda chief confirmed that extra patrols an checkpoints will be distributed in a high visibility capacity with a special focus on protecting vulnerable premises such as filling stations or service areas which are closed overnight

The garda chief also expects the new CCTV system for Ballaghaderreen to come into operation in the coming months after agreement on data protection and control is reached.
