A permanent solution to flooding at Lough Funshinagh will be delayed by up to a year. It follows confirmation from OPW Minister Kevin Boxer Moran that a planning application for a pipeline at the south Roscommon turlough will not be submitted this year. There are temporary pumps in place close to the former turlough, but they are not currently in use to the low water levels.
Minister Moran was updating Roscommon councillors on the project this afternoon. Speaking to Dan Dooner following the meeting, he says he's confident this latest setback can be overcome:
