The Minister with responsibility for flood management says progress to roll out defences in some communities have been delayed by objectors.

Patrick O'Donovan is in Athlone today to inspect a number of flood prevention cells developed along the River Shannon.

It's over two years since the CFRAM project aimed at developing flood defences in towns across the country affected by rising water levels was launched.

The Minister of State responsible for the office of Public Works admits that the slow pace of works has frustrated a number of people especially in areas of South Roscommon and Carrick-on-Shannon.

He is due to visit County Leitrim with OPW officials early in the New Year and says environmental issues have delayed projects and objections from people who don't live in flood risk areas are especially frustrating :
