Migrant rights CEO criticises Government plans for Ukranian refugees

Stricter rules for newly-arriving Ukrainian refugees are expected to come into force in late January or early February.

The CEO of Doras says the Government has not set out Medium to Long term plans for housing Ukranian refugees in the country. Stricter rules for newly-arriving Ukrainian refugees are expected to come into force in late January or early February. Refugees will be permitted to stay in dedicated State reception centres for 90 days, after which they must source their own accommodation.

A government communications campaign will be launched in the coming weeks to alert people in Ukraine of the upcoming changes and the difficulty in sourcing private accommodation in Ireland. However, speaking to the Joe Finnegan Show this morning, John Lannon from Doras believes the new measures will not prevent people coming to Ireland:
