Midlands Simon service manager admits Covid caused extra challenges for service users

A report was launched last night which revealed the overwhelming success of a Longford project.

The manager of the Midlands Regional support service admits that the Covid pandemic has hugely negative effect on people who experience homelessness and the supports they require.

Dozens of people attended the launch of a report into a scheme, run by the Midlands Simon Community, which offered apartments to 11 homeless people in Longford town in the last three years.

Since it opened in 2018, just one person slipped back into life on the streets, but they subsequently moved into another home with a different homeless charity

Emma Keane, who runs the project at Victory Court on Earl Street, says the pandemic caused a huge amount of stress for people already in very difficult situations:
