MEP warns of major rise in fake videos due to AI

The technology has created realistic images or movies of people in a range of compromising activities such as sexual acts or illegal behaviour.

AI tools have led to a major rise in fake videos, images and audio on social media. That's the warning from MEP Maria Walsh who is highlighting the ease in which the tools can be weaponised against public figures. According to the Fine Gael MEP, 'Deep Fake' videos or pictures could be used to discredit sitting policitions or election candidates.

A 'Deep Fake' is where AI tools use existing images or videos and significantly alter them to portray a fabricated scene. In many incidents this technology has created realistic images or movies of people in a range of compromising activities such as sexual acts or illegal behaviour. Speaking to Let's Talk today, Maria Walsh called on Social Media Companies to do more to regulate the use of AI generated content:
