A man has been remanded in custody after the attempted robbery of three shops in Athlone last Friday.
Gardai arrested the man after he entered the outlets, which included a bookmaker and an off-licence, at approximately 2pm.
Following a search of the area, Gardai arrested the man, who was discovered to be in possession of a knife and a screwdriver.

He was subsequently detained at Athlone garda station, where he was charged on Friday night, and appeared at a special sitting of Mullingar District Court on Saturday morning.
