A man remains in Garda custody after being arrested over a serious assault in Co Longford early on Saturday.
A youth in his late teens is in a critical condition in hospital after he was attacked in Ballymahon.
The young man was found with serious head injuries in the main street of Ballymahon in south Co Longford after he was attacked around twenty past three on Saturday morning.
He was taken to the Midlands Regional Hospital in Mullingar by paramedics before being transferred to Beaumont in Dublin.
He was in a critical condition last night.
Yesterday evening Garda Headquarters said a 19-year-old man had been arrested in connection with the assault.
The force said investigations are continuing into what happened.
Earlier they asked for eyewitnesses to come forward -- and asked the public to send in any footage recorded in Ballymahon between 2am and 4am on Saturday morning.
