The infant was left on a path in their car seat a short time later.

It's reported a baby was left on the roadside by a thief who'd stolen a family car without realising the child was inside.

It's alleged to have happened in the Cabra area of Dublin last Sunday.

The Herald reports the car-thief was watching as a man and women briefly left their vehicle unattended to go back inside their home, leaving the engine running.

Another child, aged around 9, managed to jump from the car before the man sped off, not realising there was an infant strapped into the back seat.

Shortly afterwards the child was left in its car seat on a footpath and the car-jacker continued driving.

No one has been arrested and no description of the man has been issued.
