A man remains in Garda custody following an incident at a filling station in Longford this afternoon.
Gardai an emergency services attended the premises on the Dublin Road after 4pm following reports of a man in a distressed state in the forecourt.
Local Gardai, including members of the regional Armed Support Unit attended the scene and a man was subsequently arrested after what eye witnesses have described as a short standoff.

The man was taken to Longford Garda station for questioning where he remains tonight.
It had been suggested locally that a weapon may have been found at the scene but this has not been confirmed by Gardai.
Investigations are ongoing.
