Man found guilty of capital murder of Detective Colm Horkan to be sentenced today

Last month, a Jury of 7 men and 5 women found the defendant guilty following 9 hours of deliberation.

The man found guilty of the capital murder of Detective Garda Colm Horkan in Castlerea three years ago is to be sentenced at the Central Criminal Court today.

Stephen Silver of Aughaward, Foxford County Mayo was found guilty of shooting Detective Horkan 11 times on June 17th, 2020 reckless to the knowledge he was a serving member of An Garda Siochána.

The bike mechanic in his mid 40s had plead guilty to manslaughter by reason of diminished responsibility over the course of two trials, with the first ending with a split Jury.

Last month, a Jury of 7 men and 5 women found the defendant guilty following 9 hours of deliberation.

Mr Silver will appear in the Central Criminal Court in Dublin later this morning where he will be sentenced for Capital murder.
