A man in his 30s is due before a special sitting of Longford District Court this afternoon, charged following the seizure of an imitation firearm in the course of on operation in Granard, Co Longford, on Friday the 6th of January.
Shortly after 8pm on Friday evening, Gardaí received reports of a man armed with a firearm walking along on Main Street, Granard.
In the course of a follow up operation involving local Gardaí and members of the Armed Support Unit, a residential property was searched in Granard and a man in his 30s was arrested.
An imitation firearm and holster, along with a number of other exhibits were recovered in the search.
The man was arrested under Section 30 of the Offences against the State Act, 1939 and detained for questioning at Longford Garda Station.
He has since been charged.
