The number of positive cases in hospitals is still a cause for concern according to health experts.

The number of people in local hospitals today with confirmed cases of Covid 19 has halved compared to this time last month.

169 people with positive cases are currently attending Shannonside Northern Sound hospitals with or because of Covid.

That's compared to 230 locally on the 11th of January.

Last month, 16 people with the virus were receiving treatment in critical care units at hospitals across the region, with that figure dropping to 11 today.

Our Lady's Hospital in Drogheda has the highest number of patients in Covid wards today followed by UHG and the Midlands Regional Hospital Tullamore.

National levels are following the same trend with 594 people diagnosed with the virus in hospitals today versus 1,046 in January.
