Major increase in resignation and early retirements among HSE staff

It's a 15 per cent increase on 2021.

Over 6,200 HSE staff under the age of 50 resigned or retired last year.

According to freedom of information figures, it's a 15 per cent increase on 2021.

A total of 10,162 HSE staff resigned or retired from the organisation last year.

There was also an increase in the number of people leaving the organisation long before reaching retirement age.

2,173 people under 30 quit last year - up 39.

2,368 people aged between 30 and 40 left - up 436.

1,675 people aged between 40 and 50 resigned or retired - an increase of 326.

Sinn Fein's health spokesman, David Cullinane, says there are several factors.

These totals are up significantly on 2020, when a total of 7,413 HSE staff left the organisation.
