Low number of building projects last month locally

Nineteen commencement notices were issued for residential housing last month in the Shannonside Region.

Data released by the CSO shows the local notices. which are designed to register that a person intends to carry out building work, are a small fraction of the national figure of almost 2,600.

Labour shortages and construction cost inflation has resulted in a slow down in the sector with housing agencies criticising the Government's rate of building affordable homes.

Roscommon had the most notices last month at eight residential projects begun followed by six notices in Longford.

Leitrim saw the lowest amount both locally and nationally, with just 5 notices submitted in June.
