Daire Doyle’s Longford Town get their SSE Airtrictiy League first division back underway with a trip to UCD on Friday night.
The form book has been thrown out the window as Town last played a competitive game five months ago on Friday February 28, a one-nil win over Drogheda United their second of the season.
The covid-19 era now gets underway on Friday night with Town set to play an 18 game regular season, adding 16 games to their current total.
UCD collected four points from their opening three games, but with such a long break and with some many unknowns, history doesn’t appear to count for much.
“The first 14 days we have five games so we need to make full use of the whole panel” explained Doyle.
“We’ve one or two little niggles, but bar Dean Byrne and Thomas McLoughlin we should have a full panel available.”
Another moment of this covid-19 era is a lack of scouting available to clubs. While Town have played five warm-up games, Doyle was unable to send a scout to watch UCD.
“We’ve only had one or two small reports from twitter and what you get on-line, we had them watched earlier on the year” explained Doyle.
“We know a fair bit about them we’re happy enough going into the game of what we know about them.”
“We’ve 16 games so we need to get out and make the most of it in every single game, we’ll be looking for a quick start and getting away to a flyer and hoping to do that UCD.”
