Longford town has risen to 8th in the rankings of the latest IBAL survey covering a total of 40 towns around the country.

Roscommon town meanwhile is continuing to struggle , falling to 'Littered' status and ranked at 29th of the 40 towns surveyed.

The An Taisce report for Longford town said it was another very strong performance for the town, with 7 out of 10 sites getting the top grade,

These included the Harbour Row Shopping Centre, Longford Train Station, and there were no heavily littered sites in the town.

The report for Roscommon town said there has been an overall drop in the towns performance compared to a number of years ago when it was a strong performer.

The only two top-ranking sites were approach roads into the town, with none in the town centre.

The report also said that if some of the moderately littered sites improved it could make a big difference.

It said the sites which need attention include the laneway off Main Street leading to Matrix Gym, the car park at the corner of Henry St and Church St, and the car park and truck parking area near Caseys.
