Gardai have confirmed that under current Covid-19 regulations establishments selling food and beverages are permitted to do so on a takeaway basis only and seating areas are not permitted
The statement comes after a number of business owners in the Shannonside region expressed dismay after being contacted by Gardai this week to ask them to remove outdoor seating areas.
Longford-Westmeath TD Joe Flaherty has expressed dismay at the confirmation that cafes and restaurants with outside seating areas were breaking the current regulations and claims that it makes no sense to put roadblocks in the way of small businesses trying to reopen.
