Longford St. Patrick's Day parade returns after two years

The last two parades were forced to cancel due to ongoing Covid restrictions at the time.

The Longford St. Patrick's Day festival is to resume this year after a two year gap due to Covid-19.

The festival will return to it's traditional 17th of march outing through the town, with this year's theme set as 'Ar Ais Arís' or 'back again.'

Local charity Cian's kennels have also been selected as the 2022 Grand Marshall.

Set up in 2020 in memory of their son Cian, parents Evelyn and Enda Neary helped created a boarding kennel to house the pets of sick children at Crumlin Children's Hospital.

The festival is welcoming commercial, school, community and vintage entries to take part, with entry forms available online via longfordchamber.ie.

Speaking to Shannonside Northern Sound, Longford Chamber of Commerce President Fiona Fenlon says the anticipation of the parade is already beginning to build:
