There's a lot of concern that the N4 project between Mullingar and Longford could fall victim to the circumstances of the time once again

The Minister for Public Expenditure has said he wants to see healthy competition between road projects in the new National Development Plan.

Michael McGrath said the Government is committed to the infrastructure projects, despite Green Party leader Eamon Ryan saying they aren't guaranteed to happen.

Ministers have been launching the revised, 165 billion euro plan in Cork this afternoon.

The Minister in charge of Public Expenditure Michael McGrath says road projects are committed to, despite a commitment to spend twice as much on public transport.

Longford Fine Gael Senator Micheal Carrigy says the upgrade of the N4 between Mullingar and Longford can't end up as a casualty of the Green Party demands for the National Development Plan.

Senator Carrigy says the route has been delayed long enough and it needs to be allowed to progress for the betterment not just of Longford but the entire north-west.
