The Longford Care Centre is losing three speech and language therapists, one occupation therapist, one physiotherapist and one psychologist.

A Longford Senator says he hopes the roll-out of the new Children's Disability Network Teams will help services for children in the county.

Senator Micheal Carrigy says the Phoenix Care Centre in Longford has a waiting list of more than 600 children, while it continues to lose staff.

He says this week alone, the service will lose three therapists who are badly needed to deliver proper treatment for children who have various challenges.

The Fine Gael Senator says he's been told by Minister Anne Rabbitte that an audit will be carried out in the coming weeks and more staff can then be allocated.

The new Children's Teams have been described as a fairer way to provide services for children based on their needs, rather than on their diagnosis alone.

Senator Carrigy says Minister Rabbitte told him the new teams haven't been established in the local area so far, but as soon as they are a proper audit of needs will be carried out.
