The community of Longford is in shock following the death of a four year old boy in a collision on Wednesday afternoon.
The boy lost his life after being struck by a van in the Palace Crescent area of the Ardnacassa housing estate shortly after 2pm.
He was pronounced dead at the scene after he was in collision with a van.
A post mortem is due to take place on the boy's remains at Mullingar hospital today and CCTV footage in the area is also set to be examined as part of garda investigations
Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this incident to come forward and especially any road users who were travelling in the Palace Crescent area of Ardnacassa between 1:30pm - 2:30pm on Wednesday afternoon and who may have camera footage (including dash cam)

Local councillor Peggy Nolan says the entire community is devastated for the families involved.
