Longford domestic violence specialist urging people in distress to get help

Support services are saying “crimes of passion” do not exist and says intoxication or jealousy are not excuses for violence.

A local domestic violence expert is urging those suffering in the region that supports are ready and waiting to help them.

Domestic Violence Specialist at Longford Women's Link, Heather McKenna says there is emergency support services ready to help at a moment's notice if needed.

The call comes after Nadine Lott’s ex-boyfriend was found guilty of her murder yesterday, after subjecting the 30 year old to a beating that left her unrecognisable to family.

According to Heather, new strategies enacted by Gardaí are providing a greater focus on the response to domestic violence incidents or concerns.

Speaking to the Joe Finnegan today, she says Longford Women's link can provide specialised services to cater to the exact circumstances of someone's issues:
