Longford County Council to receive €1.3m for loss of rates

Lough Ree Power Station closed in December 2020, after 62 years.

Longford County Council is to receive €1.3m to make up for the loss of rates as a result of the closure of the Lough Ree Power station.

The government has confirmed that €3m is to be provided in 2022 for Just Transition in Counties Longford and Offaly.

€1.3m will be provided to Longford County Council and €1.7m will be provided to Offaly County Council.

In 2019, the Lough Ree Power Station in Lanebsoro accounted for approximately 16% of the rates receipts for Longford County Council,

Minister of State for Local Government and Planning, Peter Burke TD has welcomed the funding.
