Longford Councillors unhappy over communication on plans for Ballyleague boardwalk

A tender for the feasibility study as reported by Shannonside FM news earlier this month

Councillors in Lanesboro claim a breakdown in communications between Longford and Roscommon councils is endangering a major tourism project for the region.

Both local authorities are looking at plans to install a boardwalk at Lough Ree encompassing Ballyleague and Lanesboro in order to draw tourism to the area.

Earlier this month, Roscommon County Council advertised for expressions of interest for the completion of a feasibility study on the Roscommon leg of the boardwalk.

However this move has been criticised by Councillors on the opposite bank of the Shannon, with Longford representatives claiming the Roscommon local authority have 'gone off on their own'

At this week's meeting of Longford County Council, members expressed worry that a lack of communication between the neighbouring counties and no progress on the Longford side could result in the failure of the boardwalk project.
