The call was made at a meeting of Longford County Council this week.

Longford County Councillors are calling on the local authority to install and develop new playground facilities in the county.

The December meeting of Longford County Council heard motions from two councillors urging the executive to progress the provision of the kid's amenities.

Councillor Mark Casey received support at the meeting at the Granard Library this week for his motion to use previously ringfenced playground funds for a new site in Ardagh Village

Elsewhere, Longford Town area councillor Uruemu Adejinmi is seeking council management to apply to the Department of Disability for funding to install inclusive playground equipment in all recreational areas

The Fianna Fail Councillor argues that any such equipment would allow children of all ages and abilities to enjoy playing together.

Speaking to Shannonside FM following the Council meeting, Councillor Adejinmi says. every child in the community must be catered for.

''Having inclusive spaces means that every equipment there is adaptable to the needs of the child that needs to use that equipment. And I think if we can make our play areas that bit more inclusive, it'll really help you know drive that message of tolerance and acceptance of who we are as people.''
