Councillor Nolan says she will call for a public protest.

A Longford councillor says she is willing to block the Dublin road outside the Radiology department at St Josephs to highlight chronic underfunding of equipment there.

Fine Gaels Peggy Nolan who attended the unit recently in a private capacity says she witnessed first-hand the poor condition of the x-ray equipment.

She says the HSE spent almost €200,000 euro on the department last year but there is no sign whatsoever that the unit is listed for equipment funding either this year or next.

The Fine Gael councillor says it's the "turn of a coin" every day as to whether the equipment will work, and if it fails then the unit is likely to be lost to Longford for good.

Speaking on the Let's Talk show today the local representative says she's prepared to make a significant protest outside the department if funding isn't made available inside the next month.

''Civil disobedience, I'm not a fan of that but I know the people of Longford are totally behind the staff on this and the retention of that crucial piece of infrastructure, If something doesn't happen within the next four weeks, I've no problem and asking my council colleagues to come with me and blocking the Dublin road on a Friday evening and let's see what happens because I'm prepared to take the consequences on behalf of the people I'm representing.''
