A Longford Councillor says there is no appetite to change the current system of grace periods for on street car parking in Longford.

A customer who was delayed in a convenience store on Ballymahon street due to queues was fined 60 euro for taking 20 minutes to return to their car.

Seamus Butler says that if people are delayed in a shop and know they are going to extend beyond the current ten minutes grace period, they should at least pay the minimum charge.

Councillor Butler says that while this was unfortunate and the person may feel it’s unfair, there has to be a line drawn and the grace periods shown are generous.
