Longford has seen several high profile seizures of cash and other assets connect to organise crime.

A Longford Councillor has welcomed confirmation that provision will be made to filter assets seized from criminals back into local communities.

It's understood that Minister for Public expenditure Michael McGrath will announce in the Budget a 'Community Safety Fund' for areas hit by criminal activity.

Councillor Gerry Warnock received support for a motion brought to the county's JPC last year to channel assets seized by CAB to be retained locally.
