The Longford county councillor says a problem with raw sewerage seeping from a manhole in Drumlish has been left without repair for the past three years

A Longford Councillor claims Irish Water is "not fit for purpose" after a sewerage issue in Drumlish has been left without repair for three years.

Padraic Brady told the July meeting of the Granard M.D that raw sewage was flowing through the village due to an issue with a manhole in the area.

The meeting also heard that a local pub cannot re-open due to the problem, and the Fine Gael representative said it was "an absolute scandal" that the utility could not provide funds for Longford County Council to resolve the complaint three years after it was highlighted.

Councillor Brady says it's not good enough that Irish Water won't explain why it hasn't been fixed.
