Longford continues to record highest rates of Covid nationwide

The rate of Covid-19 in Waterford City South is three times the national average.

The Longford local electoral area has the second highest rate of Covid-19 in the country today.

Updated figures from the HSE's Covid Hub show the 14 day incidence rate in the Longford MD at well over double the national average of 493, with 199 new cases over the last two weeks.

Elsewhere in the region, the Roscommon LEA has seen an increase, with the area's incidence rates at 791 with 180 recent cases reported.

Staying in the county, the Athlone MD has recorded 100 new cases over 14 days with an incidence rate of 500, while Boyle has one of the lowest levels of covid in the country with an incidence rate of just 297.

Returning to Longford, a 14 day incidence rate of 699 has been detected in the Ballymahon municipal district after 99 new cases of the virus were notified.

The Granard MD reported the lowest figure in County Longford at 674, still above the national average.

The situation has stabilised somewhat in Leitrim, where incidence rates are holding in and around the national average, with the Ballinamore LEA seeing a rate of 578.

Meanwhile the Manorhamilton and Carrick on Shannon local electoral areas are reporting rates of 545 and 457 respectively this morning with over 100 new cases detected between them.
